Brandon Meriweather Will Have To Wait Two Games For His Next Victim
Post - The NFL suspended Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather for two games Monday for what the league called repeated violations of the sport’s player safety rules. The suspension was imposed a day after Meriweather was penalized for two illegal hits during the Redskins’ victory over the Chicago Bears at FedEx Field. The suspension is without pay and would cost Meriweather $141,176 of his $1.2 million salary for the season. Meriweather was not available to comment after the suspension was announced and it was not clear if he will appeal. If the suspension stands, he will miss games Sunday in Denver and a Nov. 3 home game against the San Diego Chargers. The NFL said in its written announcement that it was suspending Meriweather for “repeat violations this season of NFL safety rules prohibiting hits to the head and neck area of defenseless players, including two in Sunday’s Washington-Chicago Bears game.”
Every player wants to leave their mark on the league. Joe Montana had his 4th quarter comebacks. Barry Sanders had his amazing runs. And just like how Happy Gilmore became the first player in history to take off his skate and try to stab somebody, Brandon Meriweather won’t be satisfied until he’s the first player to give every WR in the NFL a concussion. You have got to believe Meriweather is more pissed off about not being able to concuss Wes Welker on Sunday than he is about losing 141k. That’s a WR who would help stamp Meriweather’s NFL legacy. A can’t miss concussion-prospect, and a great follow-up to Brandon Marshall. Now completely ruined because Goodell decided it’s a “rule” you “can’t” “smash another guy’s skull in” “with” “your helmet”. What a load of bunk.
Meriweather knows he’s not out there playing dirty. He’s just playing the only way he knows how.
“I feel like every hit that I took was a legit hit,” Meriweather said afer the game Sunday. “I wasn’t trying to be dirty. I wasn’t trying to hurt nobody. I didn’t launch with my head. I used my shoulder like they told me to do. Everything I did was a pointer from them [league officials]. .?.?. You’ve just got to play. There ain’t nothing I can do about it. I just go out there and play.”
Exactly. Ain’t nothing he can do about it. Through sheer coincidence and a stroke of bad luck (I assume), he somehow gave himself and Eddie Lacy concussions two weeks ago and was oddly fined by the NFL. That did not deter him though, as he came out the very next week and double head hunted, just like the league taught him. That’s a special breed of commitment. It’s such a shame they suspended him for it because now we won’t be able to see him defend passes and ball hawk for the next two weeks, and by that I mean attempt to decapitate opposing WRs and get 15 yard penalties in key situations.
PS: A lot of people are talking about how Meriweather was suspended before Suh. It’s because the NFL is adamant in their cracking down on head shots. Suh plays extremely dirty, but the NFL didn’t pay a 765 million dollar lawsuit for kicks to the nuts.
