New Black Widow Teaser: Are We Excited For This Movie?

Well, well, well...

There was no expectation in regards to a new 'Black Widow' spot during the Super Bowl after we got this special look during the National Championship Game a few weeks ago...

...and, a reminder, this was the first trailer from back in December...

So, where do we stand with 'Black Widow'? Are we excited to see this movie? Has the time passed to have a ton of interest in the character? Let's recap…

  1. Black Widow died in 'Avengers: Endgame'
  2. This movie is a prequel to the end of the Infinity Saga
  3. It is set right after 'Captain America: Civil War'
  4. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says this movie will have an impact on the future of the MCU

Here is the full quote from Feige…

"We knew we were going to kick off Phase 4 with her standalone movie, finally, and reveal parts of her past that we've never known before that will not only inform the way we saw her in the Avengers films but much of the MCU going forward…" (via CBR.com)

Obviously Feige is going to say this about a major release, but I am inclined to believe. Unlike their Disney siblings over at Lucasfilm, Marvel is pretty spot on with their promises and marketing. How much will this movie impact the future? Well, that remains to be seen, I guess. But I do like some of the new stuff we are going to see in the movie… especially the villain, Taskmaster.

Here's an explainer on Taskmaster if you are not familiar with the character…

Pretty badass and seems like a character built for good on-screen action. Plus, there is the mystery of who will actually play Taskmaster in the movie.

We can rule out Black Widow, Red Guardian, and Ray Winstone (there is no chance it is Ray Winstone's character), but I could see Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz or O.T. Fagbenle in the role with their characters. My money is on Fagbenle since we have yet to see him in any trailers or spots.

MY OFFICIAL STANCE: I really like the Black Widow character and while I believe Kevin Feige, the movie's impact on the MCU isn't the reason for my interest in seeing it (besides the fact I am a massive MCU fan). They made one espionage/spy-like movie in the MCU with 'Captain America: Winter Soldier' and it was fantastic. If we can get a badass Marvel version of James Bond, Jason Bourne or Ethan Hunt then I am all the way in. I am more excited about 'The Eternals' in the Fall, but my excitement for this movie has certainly grown over time.
