Bradley Beal Is Upset The Wizards Stink....Uhhhh Ya Think?

This trend in the league right now will never stop making me laugh. We saw it with Kevin Love who hasn't been shy about complaining about his situation in CLE despite knowing full well they were going to stink out loud and willingly chose to sign his massive 4/120M extension. I get it, that's how this works in today's NBA, you sign the big extension, then once the team stinks like you knew they would you make sure to find a way out of town. Not a bad business decision, but still weak as hell.

Which brings us to Bradley Beal and David Aldridge's report in The Athletic about how angry Bradley Beal is. Part of me feels bad for Beal, he's an elite two way shooting guard who is wasting his prime years in a tough situation. It's probably why people don't even remember him when talking about All Star selections or All NBA type seasons, which he is sneaky having. That would get frustrating for anyone of his caliber. But then I immediately remember that Beal made this choice, nobody had a gun to his head and made him stay. It was his choice to put pen to paper and sign a 2/72M dollar extension to his existing deal. He could have hit the market and found a better situation, but he took the bag and locked himself into this team until his player option in 2022-23. I'm pretty sure he knew what John Wall's health situation was, I'm pretty sure he knew what the roster was going to look like, yet he chose to stay. And guess what, if he declines his option, the Wizards will be able to sign him to a 5/266M extension compared to the 4/198M other teams will be able to offer. You think he's passing up that kind of cash? Doubtful.

So for Beal to be so unhappy before his new extension even kicks in, I just don't get what he expected. The Wizards have had their fair share of injuries which certainly doesn't help, but now you have to wonder, do the Wizards just bite the bullet and try and move Beal? Given that he's already locked up for 3 more years and is an elite talent you would have to think the return they could get would be pretty big. If the Wizards are going to be bad, you may as well be really bad and since nobody is touching that John Wall contract with a 10 foot poll, maybe you field calls on your two biggest chips in Beal and Bertans. The owner has come out and denied that they'll be sellers this deadline, but it's not as if things are magically going to get better in Washington. Who knows what Wall even looks like once he is back to playing next year.

I just think it's lame that these dudes are willingly signing extensions and then turning around and complaining that the team stinks. You knew they were going to be bad when you did that. Can't have your cake and eat it too in my opinion. You wanted the bag well you either need to make your team better or deal with the fact that you made a big time basketball mistake. But nowadays guys are just taking the money and then demanding they be traded to a contender. All these rules were put in place to give smaller markets and non free agent destinations every advantage to keep these quality of players, and it feels like it's been the exact opposite.
