House of the Dragon,HBO’s straight-to-series prequel to Game Of Thrones, is on track for a 2022 debut, HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys said in an interview with Deadline during TCA.

“My guess is sometime in 2022,” he said about when the series will premiere, stressing that it is too early to be more specific than that.

“They are starting writing,” Bloys said of the project from George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal.

Written by Condal based on Martin’s Fire & Blood book, House of the Dragon is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen, rich in the dragonlord ancestors of Daenerys.

I gotta admit, I really couldn’t care less about this, and I have a feeling most people will feel the same way.  Why you ask?

The world is still that pissed off with the final season of GoT that any spinoff won’t receive the benefit of the doubt.  Like after two whole years of writing and filming, that’s what they came up with?  What the fuck.  I’m still pissed about it.  Like enraged that we had to suffer through that after all of the buildup.  Hey GoT season 8, Seinfeld’s finale said you suck!!!  Tony Soprano is even laughing from his grave at it.

Now, I didn’t read the books.  Books are for the birds.  But if I recall correctly, the final season sucked so much ass because George R.R. Martin wasn’t finished with his series so they had to free ball it or something like that?  But we’re not getting Jon Snow, Daenerys or Tyrion at the same time, either as it’s 300 years before they existed, so I’m still hesitant.  But apparently Martin is in fact involved in the prequel, and D&D aren’t, so there’s at least a *glimmer* of hope.  That’s it, that’s what they’ve earned from me.

Will I watch it?  You bet.  But the show gets like… 3 episodes to draw me in or I am #out on it, and I hope my first instinct is way wrong.  The prequel and sequel of anything great never matches up to the original.  Like, Better Call Saul is fine and all but it doesn’t hold a candle to Breaking Bad, and neither did Grand Torino El Camino.  I sadly have a feeling this is going to be the same shit, different show.  Sucks, but it’s just how it goes.
