Predators Name John Hynes New Head Coach and This is Not What Was Supposed to Happen

So just a little over 12 hours after getting rid of Peter Laviolette, the Nashville Predators have already named former New Jersey Devils coach John Hynes as the new full-time head coach.

As I mentioned in my blog yesterday, I'm the first to admit my knowledge of the NHL outside of the Preds is limited, but the reaction of literally every person on Twitter leads me to believe this is not good.

In the Predators' press release, David Poile raved about how great this guy is before they listed his record, which is 150-159-45! While no hockey expert, I would venture that rushing to hire a guy with a career winning percentage of .423 isn't exactly a great choice. I don't really think there were any other teams beating down this guy's door.

We couldn't have given it one day to sleep on it?! Have an interim for one game, for goodness sake. The positive spin is it at least appears David Poile had a plan. But this is either going to make him look like a genius or might spell the end of his time in Nashville, as well.

I'm going to do my best to remain positive because I've spent the last month begging for literally anybody else to be the head coach of the Preds and it looks like they really took me up on that wish. I still think a change of scenery is going to be a good thing for this team. And it's not like the Devils had a ton of talent for this guy to work with.

You know what, just in writing that last paragraph I'm feeling better. Hynes has never had the talent we have in Nashville! That's gonna be the difference! Let's beat the Bruins tonight and get on a roll.

Go Preds.
