Early Rumors Hinting Brad Pitt Might Be On True Detective Season 2

Metro – Could Brad Pitt be the new Matthew McConaughey? Brad Pitt in-line for True Detectives? There’s a headline we never thought we’d write, but as the hunt for a new pair of True Detectives heats up, Brad Pitt is one of the names said to be in the running. With actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson both confirming their exits from the hit HBO drama, the second series will start afresh with brand new case and police investigators – the most coveted roles in Hollywood right now. ‘Brad’s name has come up many times, it’s just a matter of what his other commitments are,’ reports Hollywood Life. ‘Brad has tight relations with HBO — he teamed up with Ryan Murphy last year to produce the HBO movie The Normal Heart. I know everyone would be thrilled to have him onboard.’ The soon-to-be Mr Angelina Jolie is no stranger to the silver screen having originally made his acting debut in long-running TV soap Dallas.

Everything I’ve read is basically saying there’s nothing really concrete here. Nothing to substantiate the rumors. Nobody is even sure where the rumor came from. But the fact that its even possible is fucking awesome. The fact that in this Golden Age of TV, doing a feature film is potentially taking a back seat to a television series, is fucking awesome. After McConaughey went down in TV history with his Rust Cohle character every True Detective fan was wondering how they can possibly live up to that same acting standard season 2. Brad Pitt would probably going a long way towards getting that done. People are obviously referencing his performance in Se7en because that was a very True Detective-esque movie, but who knows what direction season 2 will go. Either way with movies like Se7en, Fight Club and Inglorious Basterds under his belt he’d be a big name to land.

To be honest though, I almost want to be surprised again. 6 months ago if you told me HBO was doing a cult murder series with fucking Wooderson and Billy Hoyle I would have laughed out loud. McConaughey and Woody were the last guys in Hollywood you’d expect to crush a series like that. Part of the reason why True Detective was so awesome was that surprise factor. Like when Heath Ledger was the Joker. Nobody on earth liked that casting job and it turned out to be a classic. I’d love to watch Brad Pitt and I think he’d do a fine job, but in a perfect world I think another unexpected duo taking it to the next level like season 1 did would be better.

Its different now though. The standard has been set and the pressure’s on to succeed again – might have to go with a sure thing like Pitt. Either way, the fact that this is the discussion we’re having for a small screen series is fucking awesome.
