Vince Carter Becoming The 5th Player Ever To Play In 1,500 Games Is Cool As Hell
Even if you knew this day was coming once Vince announced he was going to come back to the Hawks for a second go around, now that it's here and he's officially one of 5 players in the history of the NBA to play 1,500 games it's pretty cool. As someone who firmly does not want Vince Carter to retire yet because I think what he is doing at 43 is pretty remarkable and he still has basketball left in him I love all of these benchmarks. Like when he played his first second this season and became the first player ever to play in four different decades. That shit is cool. Look at the names on that list. All legends of the game and it's only right that Vince is right there with them. The best part is in game 1,500 Vince is still getting it done. As I blog this he currently has 12 points on 4-8 shooting (4-8from deep) doing shit like this
Of course now my brain immediately moves to how high can he potentially get on that list? Entering tonight he's played in 18 of their 23 games, if he maintains that pace that puts him at 46 more games and 64 for the season which would be a 10 game dip from last year. That would put him 3rd all time, and let's say because the Hawks stink they let Vince rest and he plays like 30 more games the rest of the season, he's still going to clear Dirk as long as he stays healthy. Sadly the man basically has a TV gig already lined up as soon as he's done playing, so this probably really is it for Vince which means Kareem can sleep easy.
I also always loved how Vince Carter chose to go to the Hawks and mentor rather than sit on someone like GS's bench or go wherever he thought he could win a ring and never play. That's a guy who knows he's a lock for the Hall of Fame and doesn't give a shit about retiring without a ring.
Now, cue the highlights
