We Don't See Nearly Enough Perfectly Executed Throat Punches These Days

Yeah yeah yeah I know that Coley already blogged about it but ya know what? This wasn't just Jumbo getting pissed off at an absolute pigeon like Petr Mrazek taking a swipe at him with his stick. This was Jumbo passing down the knowledge that he's learned from his countless centuries here on Earth and completely dominating a sheet of ice. When 900-years-old you reach, look as good you will not.

But seriously. When is the last time you saw a perfectly executed throat punch? It's such a great move yet it's so rarely used these days. Whenever anybody goes to throw a punch, they're almost always aiming for the face/head. Personally, I blame this on the internet because everybody always wants that knockout shot to go viral. But for every knockout shot that goes viral, there are probably 50 other punches that either end up with a broken hand or you just hit such a thick part of the skull that it does minimal damage. The throat punch, however? Well it's going to stop your opponent dead in their tracks. You make clean connection with the throat and you win that fight 10 times out of 10. Gonna be pretty hard to breath when you can't breath because your esophagus is donezo.

So sure, Jumbo definitely wanted to put that sieve Mrazek in his place last night. But he also wanted to teach this younger generation how you're actually supposed to fight. The throat punch is such a wily vet move and since Jumbo is the last of a dying breed, he took it upon himself to pass it on. The only move better than a throat punch? The throat rip.
