Don't Listen To Chief About Baseball

Saw this tweet and it made my head want to explode.  OF COURSE he said it’s “trolling”

but don’t let him fool you.  He 1000% believes this because that’s what the naive Cubs fan in him says is the case, that nobody wants to play for the White Sox.  That NOBODY gives a fuck about them.  Doesn’t matter that any team not located in the northeast with similar offers to the Phillies would have lost out to him…

… it only matters that Zack Wheeler did NOT want to play for the White Sox because they’re a loser organization that nobody cares about and every other organization in baseball is better than.  That’s it.  That’s all that matters.

Look, when the White Sox are pitching a free agent, they’re not just pitching playing for the White Sox.  Of course that’s the end game, but they’re pitching living in Chicago.  Home to this:

And they’re pitching free agents on what’s to come with the team that has a core of Moncada, Giolito, Cease, Kopech, Grandal, Abreu, Robert, Madrigal and more.  Not only has Rick Hahn publicly stated multiple times that every free agent knows what kind of core the White Sox have built, but one of the premier free agents in baseball this winter, Yasmani Grandal, has said so as well.  That he chose the White Sox because of how good their young pitching is and that he really wanted to work with them.  But that doesn’t fit Chief’s narrative.

Chief is 1000% the exact “Cubs fan” stereotype everyone imagines.  Not a huge baseball fan growing up, moved to Chicagoland as a young kid and chose to “root” for them solely because it’s easy to do so.  Everyone else does it, might as well join along.

But in the end you can’t control Wheeler’s wife is from fucking New Jersey and he preferred the east coast.  Whatever.  That has nothing to do with the White Sox being a shit organization, that nobody wants to play for them, or anything other than the motto “happy wife, happy life”.  The only thing that would have changed that is if the Sox grossly overbid for him at what… $135MM?  $140MM??  And at that point… no fucking thank you anyways.  Win some, lose some.

The White Sox did every single thing they could to land Wheeler.  Assuming the offer was $125MM or so, a LOT of people would still consider that an overpay.  This time they lost out on shit they cannot control.  So don’t listen to Chief.  Go listen to him on hockey stuff
