ALERT: ALL OF JAY Z'S MUSIC IS BACK ON SPOTIFY

THIS IS NOT A DRILL

ALL OF JAY Z’S MUSIC IS BACK ON SPOTIFY

HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY TO HOV AND HAPPY DAY TO ALL OF US

Holy shit I can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this day. Well actually I can. I’ve been waiting since October 28th, 2014, that was the day Jay Z took his entire catalog exclusively over to TIDAL. He took all that great music and put it behind a paywall. Not only that, Shawn was successfully able to wipe pretty much any trace of his music off of YouTube. So simply hearing any shred of Jay Z music became virtually impossible (unless you subscribed to TIDAL which LOL). So that’s over 5 years since any of us have been able to readily listen to the musical greatness of Jay Z .

But now we’re back. And folks, so much good music just became available that it’s hard to comprehend. Jay Z has been so great and so prolific for so long that there are too many hits to count. Reasonable Doubt, In My Lifetime Vol 1, Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life, vol. 3, The Blueprint, The Black Album. The list goes on and on and on and those are just full albums that are JAM PACKED with some of the best hip hop to ever be made on God’s green earth. Even having some of the lesser known/lesser critically acclaimed Jay Z albums available is great because Jay Z’s worst is better than most rapper’s best. It’s all there.

And I said this when Jay moved his catalog over to TIDAL but I’ll say it again now, not allowing people to readily access the genius that is Jay Z’s music seemed like a gigantic mistake. I get that he wanted to try something new and inventive, because that’s been Jay Z his entire career, but people not being able to listen to his music was going to hurt his legacy long term I thought. Because you know what people do when they can’t listen to something? They simply move onto the music of an artist who’s still on normal streaming services like Spotify. It doesn’t force them pay for TIDAL, they just listen to something else. It would’ve never gotten to a point where Jay Z was irrelevant because he’s too iconic but younger generations wouldn’t have been able to fully grasp his greatness. Now they can.

But you know what’s funny? It all might’ve been a stroke of genius because people are JACKED UP about Jay Z’s music being available everywhere now. It’s chaos in the streets with today’s news. I’m getting text message after text message from people being like, “This is the best day of my life.” People here in the office are listening to nothing but Hov. So at the end of the day, once again and like always, Jay Z comes out on top.

Bottom line is this, you should do nothing today but listen to Jay Z. That’s what I’m gonna do. Start at the beginning and just go. The fact that I’m now able to click and few buttons and listen to Reasonable Doubt whenever I want is amazing.

Go now. Right now. Stop reading this blog and go listen.
