Fox News – Beyonce is one of the world’s most scrutinized pop stars, and now that study is moving to academia. The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University is offering a course called “Politicizing Beyonce.” Kevin Allred, a doctoral student who is teaching the class, tells the university’s online news site that he is using Beyonce’s career as a way to explore American race, gender and sexual politics. The class supplements an analysis of Beyonce’s videos and lyrics with readings from Black feminists. Allred says he’s seeking to help students think more critically about media consumption. Rutgers also has a class examining the theology of Bruce Springsteen’s lyrics.
Ah Rutgers. God bless ya. Imagine what you average day at RU looks like? 11:15am – Bruce Springsteen class. 12:30 – lunch, nap. 2:15pm – Beyonce class. 4pm – Health center for some penicillin to clean up that rash. 6pm – Nap, dinner. 10pm – Barstool Blackout to contract new rash. What a fucking life. Its like everything college is meant to be.
But I’ll tell you what – it aint that bad of an idea. I’ve always said college should teaching classes on practical life lessons. And the most practical lesson of all is to always look out for yourself, step on whoever you need to step on, and do whatever you gotta do to make it to the top. And if there’s one bitch out there that did all that, its Beyonce. Just kicked everyone out of the group, made her dad her manager, kept all the money for herself, married another bazillionaire and has the whole world duped thinking she can do no wrong and shit. Rutgers Beyonce class might be the most valuable college class in all the land.
