Bill Polian Issues a Half-Assed Apology for Saying Lamar Jackson Should Be a Receiver

Source - Sorry, Lamar Jackson. Bill Polian had you pegged wrong when he declared that you were better suited to play wide receiver than quarterback in the NFL — where you are tearing up the league as a possible MVP. …
“I was wrong, because I used the old, traditional quarterback standard with him, which is clearly why John Harbaugh and  Ozzie Newsome were more prescient than I was,” Polian told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday, referring to the Baltimore Ravens coach and former GM who drafted the explosive, multi-dimensional talent with the final pick in the first round in 2018. …
Polian generated a lot of headlines by maintaining on ESPN that Jackson, who came out of Louisville with a Heisman Trophy, didn’t project well as a quarterback on the next level. He dinged Jackson’s size (6-3, 211 pounds) and accuracy while trumpeting the passing chops of the four quarterbacks ultimately drafted before him — Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen and Josh Rosen. …
Jackson clearly took note of the sentiment, as he punctuated a Week 1 win against the Miami Dolphins in which he earned a perfect passer rating by telling reporters: "Not bad for a running back."
Huh. Interesting. This is a very interesting take by Bill Polian. I mean, it's in the nature of draft punditry that you make huge errors in evaluating these guys. Hell, I thought Dominque Easley was going to be what Aaron Donald is. Mistakes are unavoidable. They come with the territory.
But what exactly does Polian mean when he says he "use the old, traditional quarterback standard with" Lamar Jackson? That he's not as big as a "traditional" quarterback? Because he's two inches taller than Baker Mayfield.
Is it that he didn't face the "old, traditional standard" of competition in college, maybe? Because I'm just assuming that Louisville's schedule is at least what Josh Allen's was at Wyoming. And God knows it was better than Jimmy Garoppolo's was at Eastern Illinois. And Polian is on record as saying Jimmy G is the best prospect he ever scouted aside from Peyton Manning.

Not to mention he said he had a first round grade on Tom Brady back in 2000, but didn't draft him in the first 198 picks because they didn't need him. So it's not like Polian is full of shit.
Could it be that he just didn't feel like Jackson wasn't successful enough in college? Because granted, a Heisman is not the be all and end all. But it means something.
Nope. I just can't put my finger on what could've been Polian's "old, traditional standard" of quarterbacking that made him so negative toward Lamar Jackson. It's a total mystery.
