Don't Go Down Without a Fight

All year you thought it would come down to the pitching. They didn't get any pitching at the deadline and instead had to hope Luis Severino, James Paxton, Domingo German, Masahiro Tanaka, and a super bullpen and would be enough to carry them to World Series Championship number 28. Well, as the Yankees wake up on October 18th facing elimination later tonight, it's not because of the pitching. It's the hitting.

Since shutting out Houston in Game 1, the Yankees offense has scored 6 runs on 16 hits in 3 games. I know those three games were started by Cole, Verlander, and Greinke, but for 11 innings they've faced the Astros bullpen. A bullpen that before the series started, the Yankees had a huge advantage on. To be honest, the Astros bullpen has been perfectly fine. They've more than held up their end of the bargain. That bullpen saved Game 2 and all of the momentum in the series when that game was tied late and the Astros were on the verge of going down 2-0. That bullpen relived Greinke in the 5th last night and did their job with limiting the damage. So far that might be the biggest surprise of the series. Houston's bullpen.

The Yankees offense is also just silent. There were probably 20 pitches last night put on a tee for them to clobber and they just fouled them off or swung through them. Edwin Encarnacion's terrifying bat has gone missing. Gio Urshela's clutch hits have been nowhere to be seen. Didi has been a ghost. Gardner has been a non factor. Gary, aside from his two run homer, has had the worst at bats I've ever seen. It's awful to watch.

Today change that. Come to the ballpark with nothing to lose. Listen, they're down 3-1 and it sucks, but this is not over by any means. All year they've battled adversity. All year they've fought. Why stop now? Change the lineup up. Put Giancarlo as your DH. Move Edwin to 1st. DJ to 3rd. Sit Gio. Do something. We need a whole different look.

Don't go down without a fight. Don't make this easy on Houston. I don't hear no fat lady. It's not midnight yet. Fight until your last breath. CC literally went out there on his last string last night and gave it all he had. You owe it to him to go out there and show that some desperation and drive to win. Win tonight, and push this series to tomorrow.
