Boston Sports Media Fall for Stefon Diggs Trade Hoax

The Boston sports media spent the last 48 hours obsessing over the Vikings potentially trading wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Pats after the huge scoop was posted on Twitter by former ESPN producer Mo Chanel.

Chanel revealed on Wednesday’s episode of the Kirk Minihane Show that he is in fact a fake sports reporter who created a Twitter account just to fuck with sports fans and the sports media by fabricating baseless rumors.

This might have been obvious to anyone who noticed his Twitter account was created three weeks ago.

“Seeing fan bases get hyped about fake rumors and hoping one of them hits so Schefty [Adam Schefter] has to credit me,” Chanel’s creator said when asked about the motivation behind his devious plot.

No one got pranked harder the WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show, which grilled Chanel for more than 20 minutes on Wednesday about his apparent scoop.

The man behind the hoax told Minihane today that Hill was actually interviewing a friend of his because he wasn’t sure he could pull off the interview without cracking up.

NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran also relied on the tweets for his report yesterday and 98.5 The Sports Hub spent multiple day parts contemplating Diggs’ potential chemistry with Tom Brady.

“I’m not retiring, the show goes on,” Chanel said. “On to the next fan base.”
