Almost five years ago to the day, a young Conor McGregor inflicted a first round knockout on Dustin Poirier at UFC 178, and stated…
“When one of us goes to war, we all go to war.”
A lot has changed in the past five years, especially in the life of Conor McGregor, but this weekend at Bellator Dublin, he proved that his sentiment back then remains the same.
Conor McGregor was spotted in public for the first time in a few weeks on Friday night to support his teammates James Gallagher, Peter Queally, and Kiefer Crosbie, and if you thought he’d be able to control himself in the case of their victories – you’d be wrong. Conor has always worn his heart on his sleeve, and that remained the same as well. After Peter Queally came back from the brink of defeat to TKO Ryan Scope, McGregor practically hurdled the cage on a fly. When Gallagher choked out his last-minute replacement opponent in 35 seconds, McGregor was immediately waiting, arms open, to hug his guy.
Honestly, it was fucking awesome to watch as a longtime SBG Ireland supporter, and I really hope that Conor has now been given the motivation to get back in that octagon and dominate. Right now, I think if he surrounds himself with hungry fighters, and sees how they look at him – not only as a friend, but as an idol…
…he may just get back to what made him so successful in the first place, and honestly – I’m very hopeful. Fingers crossed.
Congratulations to John Kavanagh on the phenomenal night for the gym!!!
