After A Long Wait, Tony D Is Back In Blue

YES. Of all the Rangers that needed to be re-signed, this was the one they needed to get right. DeAngelo had a career year in 2018-19, racking up 30 points in 61 games played. 10 of the 30 points came on the power play, something that has been a constant struggle for the New York Rangers. It seemed as if the 23-year-old defenseman was due for a decent sized extension, but instead he took a different route.

I did not expect this at all, but I fucking love it. Knowing that Tony D has the confidence to take gamble on himself means he might just screw around and get 50 points this year. The offensive skill he provides on the blue line is crucial to the Rangers defensive core. Below you'll see that DeAngelo has a near perfect puck possession rate on zone entries and exits. The only downside is his ability to play in his own end, but I firmly believe that will change this year.Screen Shot 2019-09-20 at 11.16.54 AM

It's also way too hard not to notice how awesome Tony D is on social media. He loves interacting with the fans and getting into the mix. If you ever plan on going after him on Twitter, there's a good chance he might have something to say about it. He posted this minutes after the Rangers officially announced his contract renewal.

Thank you to the New York Rangers and Anthony DeAngelo for getting this deal done, ending the summer on a high note.
