What Movies Are Releasing This Weekend? (September 13th, 2019)
There are only two big releases in theaters this weekend, one is garnering a lot of hype and the other? Well, people hate it already…
* ALWAYS TRY AND SEE THINGS IN THEATERS SO THEY DECIDE TO MAKE BETTER, ORIGINAL MOVIES *
Inspired by a New York Magazine article by Jessica Pressler that went viral, former strip club employees band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. (via Google)
Chalk this up as one of the biggest shockers of the year: ‘Hustlers’ is apparently incredible. The cast is loaded, with the likes of Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Lizzo and Cardi B. As heard by Dave himself on the rundown and twitter, Lizzo is electric, but JLo and Constance Wu alone are big enough draws for me. The real story the movie is based on is pretty intriguing and with such great reviews, it’s worth seeing the movie opening weekend.
JEFF’S VERDICT: See it in theaters
Theodore Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day — a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. (via Google)
Yikes. The marketing for this movie has been heavy in every way shape and form. Fans of the book were excited about its release and it has big stars like Nicole Kidman, Ansel Elgort, Sarah Paulson, Jeffrey Wright, and Finn Wolfhard. The problem? It’s apparently fucking terrible. The only thing really saving this movie is how incredible it looks. The legendary Roger Deakins, arguably the greatest cinematographer of all time, is responsible for the look of the movie, which is a decent selling point. Movies Deakins has done recently include ‘Blade Runner 2049′, ‘Sicario’ and ‘Skyfall’, so it is no shock that people are crediting this movie with having great visuals. With that said, even some of the positive reviews tout the movie as messy and not all that great. Big time pass on seeing ‘The Goldfinch’ in theaters.
JEFF’S VERDICT: Wait for streaming
