I'm Going To Need The Yankees To Stop Getting Hurt
Yankees 10 Tigers 4
Yankees 6 Tigers 4
I….I don’t know anymore. Yeah the Yankees just swept their 6th doubleheader of the year, which is just insane. They’re now 97-51 and have a 1.5 game lead over Houston for the all important home field throughout the American League playoffs. Their magic number is down to 6. Everything should be great right? Nope. Injuries are still happening. The Final Destination theme of this season continues to roll on like some fucking sick death trap.
Today’s victims? Edwin Encarnacion strained his oblique. JA Happ has biceps tendinitis. Gary Sanchez has a groin strain. Aaron Judge slammed into a wall and was wincing pretty much all game, despite saying he’s fine.
If Judge actually got hurt after this play I would have broke down in tears. I can only take so much.
Happ’s injury sounds the least severe. Almost as if it was planned after this start to get him tested out, since he’s been pitching through this for a few starts now. Edwin’s oblique injury is not as bad as Judge’s and hopefully doesn’t keep him down too long. Obviously tests will be the judge of that, but he was able to get another at bat after the initial injury so that maybe tells you something positive? Gary’s groin I’m not feeling good about. He says it feels similar to his groin pull earlier in the year that caused him to miss about three weeks. I guess that would get him back right before the ALDS begins so maybe that’s not the worst news? Again, the tests will be huge there. Judge says he feels fine, but I hate those winces I saw throughout the second game. Just fast forward to the playoffs. I can’t take this anymore.
After I hit publish on this blog I saw this tweet and almost had an aneurysm.
As for the games today, there were some funs things. Like Mike Ford scoring from first on a double for the first time in his career.
Domingo German pitched in relief today, gearing himself up for what it’s going to be like in October. He was fucking awesome. 4 innings. 2 hits. 0 runs. 5 strikeouts. 0 walks. He also earned his 18th win of the year, tying him with Verlander for the league lead. What a world. Expect Domingo the reliever to play a big part in the postseason. Maybe he’ll be the guy coming in for Severino after 4 innings. Don’t hate that formula one bit.
Gio Urshela launched his 20th homer of the year…
This guy was passed on by both the Indians and Blue Jays. The Yankees are paying him around $25,000 this year as part of the deal they made. Gio now has 20 homers, 70 RBIs, and a .328 batting average. Unbelievable. Word’s cannot justify the impact he’s had on this team. I love that man.
Would be awesome if Oakland could beat Houston tonight so we can extend that lead to two full games. Pray the injuries aren’t severe and just keep pushing. Next. Man. Up.
