NYCFC Recap - We Have Been Screwed

Toronto FC v New York City FC

I want you to look at this picture and guess if there was a call or not.

If you guessed yes, you would be wrong. The boys started the game strong with Mitrita firing a ROCKET off a set piece right into the upper 90 six minutes into the game. After that, it was a struggle. They gave up a PK that was converted (weak call)  right before the half and it was all downhill from there. They gave up another PK off a handball in the 77th minute, but Sean Johnson made an insane save of it.

They had a lot of chances to score on Toronto, including a bullet fired by Taty that ricocheted off the left post, but they never managed to convert any. At the end of stoppage time Taty took a through ball up into the box but was cut off by Chris Mavinga and lost his balance, tugging his jersey in the process. Mavinga whipped his arm back and nailed him in the face, seemingly shattering his nose in the process considering he was leaking blood like an open faucet. They called the jersey tug foul and nothing else. I understand the no-call on the penalty, the ball was dead from the jersey tug. But how you don’t call a red on what looked pretty clearly to be a retribution move is beyond me. Whatever, at the end of the day a point is a point. The club was down international players and also Maxi who was out on suspension. Losing to a team that has guys like Michael Bradley and Altidore makes me extremely frustrated, though. We’re on to San Jose.
