The 2020 Basketball Hall Of Fame Class Is Going To Be Absolutely Insane

NBA Finals Game 4: Los Angeles Lakers v Boston Celtics

Holy moly. You want to talk about guys who dominated from the late 90s through the 2000s, here’s your list. I mean this is a list of some of the best players the league has ever seen, there’s 15 NBA titles among them and in my opinion this is probably the most loaded class since MJ’s 2009 year. It is a little weird to see guys who you watched growing up now be at the point where they are eligible to be elected into the Basketball Hall Of Fame, nobody likes the reminder that they are now old and washed and this is one of those situations. In looking at this list, there are the obvious locks but there is also going to be an interesting case of those who are worthy and those who are very good, but not quite HOF caliber. In my opinion, it breaks down like this

Absolute locks

Tim Duncan

Kevin Garnett

Kobe Bryant

Chris Bosh

I’m sure there may be a few out there that think Bosh isn’t worthy, but just get over it. He’s making the HOF, Basketball Reference has him at a 99.5% probability and frankly he was one of the best big men of his era. For me, he’s definitely in.

The Very Good

It’s a common used joke that almost everyone makes the HOF so really it should be called the Hall Of Very Good. These are the guys from this class who I could see people making a case for, but they aren’t quite worthy of that top tier

Amar’e Stoudemire

Elton Brand

Andre Miller

Tayshaun Prince

Amar’e and Brand when healthy were terrifying 20/10 beasts. There’s no doubt about it. Those Amar’e Suns teams helped revolutionize the game, he was must watch when he was at his peak, but not a Hall Of Famer. Same with Brand. Andre Miller is 11th all time in assists which is nice, but he never made an All NBA team, never made an All Star team, and is 38th all time in steals. He was that solid point guard who played forever, but that’s why he’s in this tier.

Tayshaun has that one DET title which he played a major role in, he has one of the most iconic blocks ever with his block on Reggie Miller, a guy that was a defensive specialist who made 4 All NBA Defensive Second teams and someone that every championship team would  love to have. Still not good enough.

No Fucking Chance

Why these guys are on this list I don’t know, but that’s where things will end for them

Kevin Martin

Kirk Hinrich

Caron Butler

Three starting caliber players who carved a niche out in the NBA and lasted a long time, but they weren’t exactly franchise guys. There are only 2 All Star appearances between all three (Butler), and even someone like Martin who you think of as a 3 point specialist currently ranks 79th all time in 3PM. Hinrich ranks even higher at 69th (nice), and he made an All NBA Defense team once, but is he a Hall Of Fame point guard? I don’t think so.

For good reason though, the 2020 class will be about Duncan/Garnett/Kobe/Bosh. What an insane combination of talent and guys that may be some of the most influential players the league has ever seen. It’s a mix of everything, big time winners, unicorn talents, all time greats, just an insane class that will go down as one of the best in the Hall’s history.

Seriously though, how are these guys already eligible? Getting old fucking stinks.
