Football Guy of the Week Nominees: CFB Week 1
It was an awesome Labor Day Weekend full of college football. An unreal ending to the marquee game of the week, a few buy game losers (sorry, Tennessee), and unfortunately, the sickening feeling of being on the wrong side of a bad beat returned. But let’s push all of that to the side, because we all know the best part about the calendar turning to September is…
Football. Guy. Of. The. Week.
It’s back, and man, was the bar set high this week. We still have our four nominees, but went ahead and interviewed who we think will be the runaway winner. Let’s look more in depth at the finalists.
Hugh Freeze: Liberty Head Coach who coached from his hospital bed.
Not much more needs to be said about this one. If this doesn’t show what dedication and perseverance to what being a true football guy is, I don’t know what is. Unfortunately, Freeze is dealing with a serious back pain in which he already had to undergo emergency surgery. On the bright side, at least he was able to be present at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, VA for his team’s 2019 debut. Some of the unusual visuals created from this unique situation included a pregame pep talk via Skype, a long-distance handshake with Syracuse HC Dino Babers, and a virtual press conference. We hope Coach Freeze gets well soon and you can listen to our full interview with him on today’s Pardon My Take.
Joe Burrow: LSU QB who smashes his head on the wall before every game.
This move reminds me of Spike Hammersmith from “The Little Giants.” Just without the hot-head and bullying personality.

Shane Beamer: Oklahoma coach got stitches between his eyes after head-butting a player during a TD celebration.
Gotta love the adrenaline rush being so impactful that no matter what happens, this will end poorly. But on the flip side, you’ve got seven more points on the board. Points in exchange for stitches? Mega football guy move.
Parker Titsworth: Ohio freshman OL who wears number 69.
What a name. What a number.
