Having Players Score While Being Mic'd Up Live On The Broadcast Is Yet Another Reason Why Lacrosse Is The Future
If there’s one thing that sports fans love to bitch about, it’s hating on national broadcasters. Either one of the guys in the booth “hates” your favorite team, or you think those guys just don’t know what they’re talking about, or something of the sorts. For example, NHL broadcasts and Pierre McGuire. Anytime the man speaks on the broadcast, you can hear millions of people in unison say “shut up, Pierre” to their tv.
Now the PLL has been incorporating mic’d up players into the broadcasts all season so far. So instead of constantly hearing from a broadcaster after every goal, you can hear directly from one of the fellas out there on the field who had the best seat in the house to watch it all go down. It’s gotta be pretty hard for any fans to bitch about the guys breaking down each goal “not knowing what they’re talking about” considering, ya know, they’re the dudes who are out there playing. So the mic’d up players on the broadcast has been a pretty successful addition and I’m sure that we’ll start to see more sports start to take that idea from the PLL in the near future.
And if they weren’t going to steal the idea before this past weekend, they sure as shit are going to take it now after Trevor Baptiste stuck this goal in the middle of an interview. Wins the draw forward, steps into range, goes bombs away off-stick high, and then finishes off the interview like a true pro. That’s speed, boy.
Unfortunately for the Atlas, though, that goal and the win against Chaos on Saturday night still weren’t enough to get them into the playoffs after the Archers and Redwoods both put up some wins on Sunday. The first regular season in PLL history is in the books and we’ve got the Chaos, Whipsnakes, Archers and Redwoods still alive to play for the Crown in Philly on 9/21. The season isn’t over for Atlas or Chrome though because the PLL continues to just flip the script on everything you’ve ever known about professional sports. Those teams will now play in the losers bracket and whoever comes out on top of that will get the 1st overall pick in next year’s draft. Which means we still have at least one more game to see Trevor Baptiste stick one in the back of the net while he’s live on the broadcast.
As far as everything else from the rest of the weekend goes…

By the way–Ryder Garnsey is a sick bastard for this one. There were plenty of highlights this weekend but nobody snapped quite as hard as Ryder ddid.
Psychopath.
