One of my biggest regrets in life was being born just a little too late to really appreciate Rocko’s Modern Life on the first go around. For reference, I was born in 1992. I watched the show pretty much every day when I would get home from school and reruns would be playing on Nickelodeon, and I loved the shit out of it. The only problem was that I’d be laughing my ass off at the show but I don’t think I ever really knew exactly what I was laughing at. Or at least I didn’t know that I didn’t know what I was laughing at.
Then like a few years ago I finally got around to trying to rewatch the show for the first time in forever, and I was SHOCKED when I realized that this show was completely different than little 7/8 year old Jordie thought it was. I thought it was just funny when Filburt would say “Oh fish sticks” or when Heffer would say pretty much anything. Turns out the show was funny because it was actually just meant for a bunch of perverts disguised as a kid’s show.
But now that a new Rocko’s Modern Life special is coming out on Netflix? Well it’s a perfect opportunity to get back one of my biggest regrets in life. Rarely does such a possibility like that present itself in life. So next Friday seems like the perfect night to hang on the couch and maybe partake in a little bit of medicine while throwing on Static Cling.
Sidenote: They really were such a simpler time.
