The Orioles' Stevie Wilkerson Became The First Position Player EVER To Record A Save In The Birds Wild 16 Inning Win

What a wild game we had in Anaheim last night with the Orioles and Angels. It had everything. Bombs, blown saves, and the first position player to record a save EVER. Heading into the 9th the teams were tied at 4 until Trey Mancini came to bat. He punished a ball into right center and executed the bat drop perfectly.

Boom baby, O's go up 5-4 in the top of the 9th and your boy had already had a long day. I dozed off thinking the Orioles would shut it down and the game was over. WRONG. When I got up this AM around 6 I saw that people on twitter were talking about the game 1 hour earlier…..the game went 16 innings. Mychal Givens blew the game in the 9th (SHOCKER!) after allowing a Brian Goodwin solo shot. There would be no other scoring until the 15th when Jonathan Villar bunted into a fielders choice, Dwight Smith Jr drew a walk, Wilkerson struck out, and then Jace Peterson laced a ball off of Albert Pujols and scored two runs to put the Orioles up 7-5 in the 15th.  Hanser Alberto then singled and brought in Peterson for an 8-5 lead. Tanner Scott came in for the Birds and immediately gave up a single and a wild pitch allowing Pujols to get to second. Scott allowed a few walks and a run before Mike Trout doubled in two runs to tie the game and holy shit did they come close to winning it, what a throw and tag here.

Orioles get out of the inning and after a Pedro Severino single, Jonathan Villar sends a shot into the night to give the Orioles a 10-8 lead. That is when Stevie Wilkerson came onto the mound. This isn't his first pitching performance this season, the guy knows what he's doing. He even calls himself "Dr. Poo Poo" when asked what kind of stuff he has. The guy gets it. You know what else he gets? Saves. He retired Goodwin, Kole Calhoun, and Pujols 1-2-3. Boom baby, first ever position player with a save. Babe Ruth? Nope, saves weren't around then. Barry Bonds never did it. Mookie Betts could never. Wilkerson also had a game trying double in the 8th. What can't Stevie Breeze do?
Don't look know, but the Orioles no longer have the worst record in baseball (Even though we all want them to have it), are 5-5 in their last 10, and are now only 33 games behind New York in the division, and just 24 games back in the Wild Card. Keep an eye on these birds, they're starting to hit their stride. Mostly because Stevie Wilkerson is a god damn boss.
