Turns Out You're All Idiots And Philadelphia Actually Has The Nicest Fans In North America
Any time the national media decides to talk about Philly sports fans, they paint a picture as if we are the most savage group of uncivilized animals the world has ever seen. They bring up snowballs at Santa Claus. They bring up throwing batteries. They bring up booing at injured players. They pretty much just bring up those same exact 3 things time and time and time again because it’s an easy way to rile up Philly fans and then get the ratings up. The year will be 2135 and the national media will still be bringing up throwing snowballs at Santa Claus.
But I ask you this simple question right now–do you see any sort of scumbag behavior in that video right there? Because I sure as heck don’t. What I see right there is why Philadelphia is the key to saving the world. Think about the times we live in at the moment. Everybody hates each other. People are constantly fighting. It’s just a constant battle because people getting outraged and then people getting outraged by the initial outrage. The world as we know it has never been more divided. But here in Philly? That’s not what we’re all about. We’re about bringing people together. We’re about Brotherly Love. And maybe, juuuust maybe, if the rest of the world was a little more like Philly? Well I think we’d be in a helluva lot better place right now.
However, I will admit that I’m a little nervous about the future generation of Philly fans losing our edge a little bit. It was a nice gesture by that kid, sure. But in the Philly that I know and love, those two kids would have ended up in a wrestling match in the stands there. So how about we just say that for every nice gesture moment like this, we still need another true Philly moment to balance it all out.
