Yahoo CEO Bans Working From Home... Reignites A Debate I Didn't Know Existed About Whether Working From Home Is Actually More Productive For Employees.

Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) - Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer, by ordering staff to report to offices, has reinvigorated debate over the merits of giving employees more flexible working arrangements. Jackie Reses, Yahoo’s executive vice president of people and development, sent a memo last week asking employees with work-from-home arrangements to make their way to company offices, starting June. Being side by side fosters collaboration and improves work “speed and quality,” she wrote. The message resonated with academics who say opportunities to work together can bolster morale while sparking creativity. Even so, research suggests that at-home arrangements can make self starters more productive and help managers attract employees who seek flexibility in how they complete tasks.

People who work from home tend to have less stress and are more productive, partly because they don’t invest time and money in commuting, said Brad Harrington, executive director of the Boston College Center for Work & Family. “When employees have family or other personal issues they need to take care of, the feeling is that by being able to work from home you can take care of those in a much shorter period of time than commuting,” Harrington said.

Are people even fucking serious here? Are we really debating whether working from home is more productive than working from the office? Umm unless you own your company and have that as your motivation the answer is unequivocally no. Because you know what is at home? TV. Food. Porn. No supervision. It’s literally distraction after distraction after distraction. I know for a fact that everytime Feitleberg makes up an excuse to work from home he gets 5% of the shit done that he would have when he’s at the office and he gets nothing done to begin with. Seriously only a college professor who has never worked a day in their lives in the real world would claim working from home is more productive. Ask any small business owner what they think? 100% of the time working in an office makes employees more productive. 100% of the time.

PS – Thanks god this Yahoo CEO is a chick.  If this was a dude the feminists would have been freaking out about how this was designed to keep women out of the workforce.
