The Great, The Greater And The Greatest From The Eagles Manhandling Of The Panthers
I bow before thee, Cherberus.
I know this is usually The Good, The Bad and The Ugly review of the Eagles game, but seriously, wouldn’t we just be nitpicking by saying somethings were ugly? Bad? Perhaps. Shady had another shit game statistically (12 carries for 19 yards and a gimmie TD from the 1). Zach Ertz is getting a little testy with his playing time and targets. And Chip Kelly was a perturbed from not cashing in on all the opportunities on offense (even though the O scored 31 points). Is that all? No injuries, turnovers or overall disgusting play. Other than one decent Carolina drive in the beginning the starters dominated from start to finish. Granted, the Panthers are in SHAMBLES, but it was still a pure whooping on prime time. There was no real bad or ugly, just gravy.
ON WITH THE GREATNESS:
Special Teams – What more can be said? The Eagles now have 9 non-offensive TD’s this season which is a franchise record and is 3 more than any other team in the NFL. Even without Sproles’ punt return you could have considered the Special Teams play as flawless. The TD was simply the cherry on top.
"Why you would punt to Darren Sproles in the middle of the field. I have no idea!" – Gruden TOUCHDOWN @EAGLES! pic.twitter.com/trc2EDbJs5

Defense - The 6th team in NFL history with back to back 8+ sack games and the first squad to do it since 1989. Chew on that fat for a little. There were a couple garbage time TD’s in the end, but this squad has essentially only let up 21 points when it mattered in the last two games. Add on a billion sacks and 5 turnovers (2 in the first 3 plays!!!!!!!!!!) and we’ve sneakily got ourselves one of the best defenses in the league. Let’s see what they do in GB.
Conner Barwin has gone FULL BEAST
The Rookie – Bales called it on the Fantasy Football Podcast last week. Sanchez and Jordan Matthews have had an instant connection since camp. The rook only delivered to the tune of 7 for 138 and 2 TD’s last night. Expect more big things.
We can really go on and on about the individual play. Brent Celek finally was used for something other than blocking and went over 100 yards for the first time since forever. The secondary played fantastic for the most part. Fletcher Cox and Trent Cole both continue to cause havoc. Shit, even Casey Matthews looks like he’s actually playing varsity ball out there.
Next week in Green Bay will be a true test of this team. Rodgers is double discount checking his dick all over the field and, honestly, I don’t think we come away with this one. BUT, if we somehow pull it out or even take it to the wire, we’ll know this squad is a real contender. I’m tired of people saying this is a fraud team that hasn’t played anyone special (um…beat 6-3 Indy in their house and lost to the 8-1 Cardinals and a TOUGH 5-4 49ers team by a total of 10 points at their places). This is where we prove it to ourselves and the league we’re just not another bum from the neighborhood. Time to Go The Distance.
