Bruins Blow Out Canes 6-2, Head To Carolina With A 2-0 Series Lead

Carolina Hurricanes v Boston Bruins - Game TwoThe Boston Bruins have taken a 2-0 seres lead after blowing out the Carolina Hurricanes 6-2 in Game 2 on Mother’s Day. Matt Grzelcyk recorded his first multi-goal game, Clifton, DeBrusk and Backes all found the back of the net. A true team effort. The best news? #CellySZN is alive and well.

Carolina brought it to Boston to start the game, hitting anything and everything in sight but it was the Bruins who came up with two goals in the first to take a 2-0 lead.

Late in the first, on a delayed penalty Marcus Johansson found Matt Grzelcyk who opened the scoring. Squeaked one just past Petr Mrazek. 1-0 Bruins.

6 seconds into the Bruins first PP (Justin Williams in the box for tripping Danton Heinen) Jake DeBrusk buried his third chance on Mrazek to make it 2-0 Bruins.

Connor Clifton extended the Bruins lead to 3-0 early in the 2nd. Great patience from Marcus Johansson to wait for Mrazek to get out of position and find Clifton on the doorstep. Clifton’s first ever NHL goal. 3-0 Bruins.

If you want to call Marchand for the cross check, fine, but Williams holding the stick is the reason why he went down like that.

With Justin Williams in the box Charlie Coyle connects with Matt Grzelcyk to make it 4-0. Gryz’s 2nd goal of the game. 4-0 Bruins.

Elite pest.

David Backes made it 5-0 just 2 minutes into the 3rd period. 5-0 Bruins. Actually pretty impressive move to pull that puck off the goal line and in.

Patrice Bergeron stepped out of the box (tripped Williams) and fed Danton Heinen who made it 6-0 in the 3rd. Bloodbath. Dougie Hamilton with a cheap shot on Heinen after he scored.

Justin Williams redirected a feed from Justin Faulk to cut the lead to 5 with 8:42 to go in the 3rd. 6-1 Bruins.

Tuukka Rask fumbled a pass to the center of the ice and Teuvo Teravainen pounced on it. 6-2 Bruins.

FINAL: Boston 6, Carolina 2

Complete team effort by the Bruins this afternoon.

News, notes and quotes:

– Marcus Johansson continues to make things happen. Two assists today. He has 5 points in his last 3 games (1G, 4A). Great patience on Clifton’s goal. Playoff Mojo in full effect.

– Multi-goal game for Matt Grzelcyk this afternoon. He took several hits in the first period from Ferland + co. but bounced back. Same with Jake DeBrusk. JD was buzzing all game long and was rewarded with his first of the series and first since Game 5 vs. CBJ. #CellySZN has returned.

– The Bruins won the special teams battle again in Game 2 with the B’s cashing in on both of their opportunities. Meanwhile Carolina went 0/4 on their man advantage.

– Three assists for Torey Krug tonight.

– Petr Mrazek was lit up in the first two periods (4 goals) but Rod Brind’amour decided to keep him in for the 3rd period. B’s tacked on two more in the 3rd. We’ll see who starts Game 3 for Carolina.

– Patrice Bergeron did a great job in shutting down Sebastian Aho tonight. He did take two penalties, but once he stepped out of the box in the 3rd he fed Danton Heinen for the B’s sixth goal of the afternoon.

– Connor Clifton earned his first ever NHL goal thanks to Marcus Johansson. Cliffy has played real well these last few games, he ate Charlie McAvoy’s minutes in Game 1 when he was paired with Chara. Well deserved.

- Tuukka Rask made 21 saves (and added an assist on Teravainen’s goal).

Game 3 is set for Tuesday night at 8 pm. It’s time to bring this storm to Raleigh.

It was a great night to win a hockey game. Don’t forget to call your Mom. Happy Mother’s Day! Three hours until Thrones.
