REPORT: Eagles Were Down On Foles Before He Broke His Collarbone

nickey

PFT – Foles may have lost his job even without a cracked clavicle. According to Mark Eckel of NJ.com, the Eagles already were changing their opinion on Foles before the injury. “I think [G.M.] Howie [Roseman] is looking at quarterbacks,” an unnamed league source told Eckel. “He’s kind of soured on Foles, and I don’t think he’s alone. The organization isn’t sold that he’s the guy going forward.” While Roseman holds the title of G.M., coach Chip Kelly makes the call. And plenty of speculation remains that Kelly would love to find a way to finagle Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.

If you logically think about the situation, it makes perfect sense.

For the record I like Nick Foles. He’s certainly a starting QB in the NFL and there’s no denying the man is one tough SOB. But who are his friends in the organization? Andy Reid drafted him. Foles started a few games with very little success during Big Red’s last year. It was clear Howie Roseman didn’t know what direction to go at QB and Chip Kelly definitely didn’t think he had his long term solution…that is until Vick went down last year. Think about it: If Michael Vick didn’t get injured then Nick Foles probably wouldn’t have sniffed the field. The only reason Foles was given the chance to be the franchise QB is because he performed so well to the tune of the most efficient QB in NFL history (27 TD, 2 INT). If Chip and Howie thought highly of Nick The Dick, why wasn’t he offered a long term deal? (EDIT: Can’t negotiate a rookie’s contract till after their third year and yes, I’m a fucking idiot) Because it’s evident they weren’t sold on him, and this season’s 13 TD to 10 INT (+3 fumbles) stat line doesn’t help Nick’s cause. The last thing we need in this city is a QB who is doing just good enough not to be benched but is not playing at the championship level we need. We’ll see what happens, but as sad as it sounds that crack clavicle could have been an easy excuse for the Eagles to move on.

And let’s nip this in the bud right now – there’s NO WAY the Eagles find a way to get Mariota without sacrificing a lot of left nuts. None.

Oh well, onward and upward.
