A High School Sophomore Threw The First Perfect Game In New York Softball History And Oh Yeah, Struck Out Every Single Goddamn Batter While Doing It

CBS- A high school softball player in Putnam County is pitch perfect. She not only threw a perfect game, she did it by striking out every single batter she faced.

The Mahopac High School softball team has a lot to celebrate. This week, ace pitcher Shannon Becker threw what’s being called a “perfect” perfect game. The 16-year-old sophomore’s father explained. “A perfect game just means that nobody got on base. A perfect perfect game is you struck out everybody. Nobody successfully put the ball into play,” Bob Becker said. Shannon struck out all 21 batters in an 8-0 win over rival Carmel. Many believe it’s the first perfect perfect game in the history of New York high school softball.

You know how people complained that Zion Williamson had to spend a year in college instead of just being able to go to the pros? That’s how I feel about Shannon Becker having to play high school baseball for even one more game. What an absolute beatdown that must have been to witness. 21 up, 21 down all with 3 strikeouts next to every name in the box score, against her school’s rival no less!

If I am Carmel, I am closing up shop tomorrow. Not the softball team or the athletic department. But the entire school is kaput. If you are a kid that lives in Carmel, congratulations your childhood is now one long snow day because winter came for the Carmel School District in the form of Shannon Becker’s right arm. If you want a high school diploma, you better move to another town because Shannon Becker Am I saying this as a beaming proud Mahopac graduate that loves seeing Carmel get dominated as well as greatness in his own backyard? No comment. Actually why am I demanding that Shannon be pushed along to college or professional softball? I want to see what kind of other numbers she can put up because she may be even more dominant at her game than dare I say Big Brain James of Jeopardy fame.

More than 500K’s as a SOPHOMORE in a sport that’s only 7 innings?!?! That’s more ridiculous than pretty much any baseball stat I’ve come across. Shannon must have been on the varsity team since she was in Kindergarten and is so good, she’s basically making the games as fun for her teammates in the field as she makes it for her opponents at the plate.

Now this was the part of the blog where I was going to nitpick Mr. Becker for calling his daughter’s obliteration of Carmel a “perfect perfect game” because I always considered a “perfect perfect game” to be a game where the pitcher struck out every batter throwing literally nothing but strikes AKA a Steve Nebraska Game AKA from the perfectly ridiculous movie The Scout.

Please excuse the awful video but unfortunately the full movie zoomed in and sped up was the only video I could find of Steve Nebraska’s legendary game

But calling Shannon Becker’s game anything but a perfect perfect game seems wrong. So I am officially making a ruling that a Steve Nebraska game where the pitcher threw nothing but strikes is a perfect perfect perfect game AKA a Triple Perfect Game while a Shannon Becker strike everyone out is a perfect perfect game and you can maybe sneak in a third perfect if you want because it was against her rival, the Carmel Rams, who got absolutely mollywhopped by Mahopac like nobody in New York softball has ever been mollywhopped before.

P.S. How is there no record about whether or not there has ever been a perfect game in New York high school softball history? I mean I’m not surprised that there aren’t advanced analytics or Softball Reference pages from the last 50 years or so of every softball player in New York State history. But how about just a record of how many perfect games and no-hitters have been tossed as well as the all-time home run leader? Be better, New York. I’d tell Shannon to be better, but I think the only way that’s possible is if she throws a Steve Nebraska, which based on all those stats, seems like it’s only a matter of time.
