In Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson’s first fight outside of the UFC, following last year’s monumental trade involving he and Ben Askren, he showed why many consider him the best to ever do it, securing a victory via guillotine choke in the second round. He honestly squeezed this dude’s neck so hard I thought his head would flat out pop off like an action figure or something. Funny thing is, the dude had a MASSIVE size advantage on him as well, due to ONE Championship using hydration testing over weight cutting, something I assume Mighty Mouse isn’t quite used to yet.
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez also made his ONE debut versus an opponent much bigger than him, and it didn’t go quite as well for the Underground King…
Oh well! I’m sure Eddie will rebound quickly, dude’s got a true warrior’s heart.
I’m just happy to see another company make the moves to emerge as a main player, giving us more MMA at its highest level, and quite simply – more fights – which is great for everybody.
