Florida Police Will Be Cracking Down on Spring Breakers Drinking Vodka From Sunscreen Bottles

Do you guys know how brown bagging alcohol came to be? Well, according to Major Colvin from The Wire, sometime in the 1950s and 1960s, the vast majority of American city councils passed into effect laws that prohibited the consumption of alcohol in public places. The law had its justification: it was an attempt to clean up the city, but in the context of a city as grinding as Baltimore, the law seemed absurd. Then one day, one corner-sitting veteran cleverly dropped the bottle beer into a crumpled brown bag. It was genius. Just the simple fact that the container of alcohol was now hidden allowed both sides, cops and corner folk, to go their separate ways. The bag itself was moot, but it represented a civic compromise.

Well times change and ideas evolve. We don’t do math on paper with pencil anymore. We use calculators. And while we don’t drink out of paper bags anymore to avoid the cops, we find new and creative ways to smuggle alcohol where it shouldn’t be. Case and point:

It’s a tale as old as time. People that shouldn’t be drinking find creative ways to drink. And as long as they aren’t out in the open with their beer cans and liquor bottles, the cops turn their nose the other way. It’s all part of the game.

But this Florida Police Department must not abide by the rules of the game, as they have made it very clear that they will be on the lookout for such wrongdoers this Spring Break season.

What is this world coming to? Arresting kids on Spring Break for underage drinking from a sunscreen bottle is like shooting at Omar while he’s walking with his grandma to Church on a Sunday morning. It just can’t happen. If someone takes the time to clean out a sunscreen bottle and then fill it up with alcohol, I believe they have earned the right to consume that beer, even if they are only 20 years old.
