8th Year Senior Peyton Siva Leads The Louisville Cardinals To The National Championship
Seems like just yesterday Peyton Siva was a freshman at Louisville. And by yesterday I mean at least 6 to 8 years ago. I swear I was watching Peyton Siva play college ball back in 2005. He’s just one of those guys who feels like he’s been there for the better part of a decade. Yea, its rare that guys stick around all 4 years and thats what makes it feel like you’ve been watching them for eternity, but there’s a few guys out there who you feel like stretched it into at least 7 years. The best part is, everyone has their own list of these guys. In no particular order, since all these guys played called ball for 10 years:
Levance Fields, Pittsburgh Basketball 2005-2011
Sometimes I think Levance Fields was just Khalid El Amin or Mateen Cleaves dressing up in disguise to get a few more years of eligibility.
Jake Voskuhl – UConn Huskies 1996-2004
Great fucking flow on this kid.
Jeff Capel, Duke Blue Devils, 1993-Present
I swear to God Jeff Capel is still at Duke
Gerry McNamara, Syracuse Orange, 2002-2010
Pop quiz – who’s the only guy to win the Big East title 13 times? Answer: Gerry McNamara. It blows my MIND that he was only there until 2006. I swear I was watching him tear up the Garden in at least 2009.
Carl Krauser, Pittsburgh Panthers, 2001-2007
Really, its just all of the Pitt Panthers. Krauser, Fields, Brandin Knight, Chris Taft. All those dudes. In my mind they all played together for all of the 2000’s. In reality there was like no overlap.
Scottie Reynolds, Villanova Wildcats, 2006-2013
I’m pretty sure Jay Wright and Scottie are still tearing through bitches on the Nova campus to this day
Shammond Williams, UNC Tar Heels, 1994-2002
All you need to know about how long Shammond Williams career at UNC felt – I’m pretty sure thats fucking Steve Wojciechowski guarding him.
PS – who came first? Shammond or Ed Cota?
Couldn’t tell you. I think they just played side by side for 10 years
Udonis Haslem, Florida Gators, 1998-2007
I could have sworn Udonis Haslem won those 2 titles with Billy Donovan.
Paul Davis, Michigan State Spartans 2002-2010
The softest big man in the history of college hoops. I swear he was on the verge of crying every time he took the court from ’02-08
Chris Duhon, Duke Blue Devils, 2000-2007
As far as I’m concerned, Duhon was there from Laettner’s shot to their championship against Butler.
The Kirk Hinrich/Nick Collison Duo, Kansas Jayhawks, 1999-2006
I think I watched these two come out of the closet together for 6 straight years. It was like watching a relationship unfold as they flirted and played grabass together for their whole careers. By years 6 and 7 I think they were fully dating
But Siva is the undisputed champ. I honestly expect him to return next season. I think he was the love child of Edgar Sosa and Francisco Garcia and took like 2 years of eligibility from both of them so he’s got 4 more left. College hoops just won’t be the same without him playing for Louisville. Oh well. We’ll always have Jeff Capel.
