Ozzie Guillens Son Named Astros' Low A Manager And Baseball NEEDS More Guillen In It

Baseball is better when there’s a Guillen in it, even if it’s Ozzie’s son and he’s in it at the low A level.  That’s not meant as a knock on the kid – he’s 27 years old and could be managing in the Big Leagues sooner than later.  If his baseball acumen is even half of what his old man’s is, he’ll ascend the ranks pretty quickly. The Guillen family eats, sleeps and breaths baseball, and they’re forever engrained in the culture of Chicago because of 2005.

I’m happy for the kid.  But this story also made me kinda sad.  It was just announced that Ozzie will have a larger roll with NBC Sports Chicago, but real baseball weirdos like me don’t need him yammering into a camera for an hour a night, we need him motherfucking umpires:

The glove kick was incredible

Laughing at a ball that was off the plate and called a strike FOR Mark Buerhle.  Such a fuck you to Blue here.  This one is my favorite ejection of all time.  So emasculating

Or my favorite Hawk/Ozzie tirade ever, going off on Joe West.  Goddamnit I miss Hawk and Ozzie.  “He’s becoming a joke to the umpiring profession!”

In a game that is having a MAJOR problem with marketing it’s stars and personalities, getting any dose of a Guillen at all is such a breath of fresh air.

We don’t want, we NEED, as baseball fans, more shit like this:

You think AJ Hinch or Tito Francona is getting Mad TV spoofs made of them?  For sure not.

Sure, Ozzie’s mouth ultimately lead to his demise, and even though it’s only been a few years since he’s been in baseball in a managerial capacity, that shit would probably never fly today.  But that’s the loud minority speaking.  Baseball fans WANT more Guillen.

Now I will say this – I don’t know Ozney Guillen and have no idea if he’s as colorful and outgoing as his father.  For all I know he’s extremely introverted and chooses to teach and lead that way.

Nevertheless, it’s a true breath of fresh air that Guillens are making their way back into the game.  Ozzie breaking down some White Sox in broken English a few times a week for NBC Sports and Ozney managing.
