Are Penguins Fans The Luckiest Hockey Fans In The World?

1992 Stanley Cup Finals - Game 1: Chicago Blackhawks v Pittsburgh Penguins

Sid, Mario, Jagr, Geno….Some franchises go decades without having a player good enough that he only has one name and you know who he is and the Penguins have had 4 in my lifetime. It’s actually insane when you think about it. Sid and Mario will go down as top 5 players to ever play the game and Penguins fans got to experience them back to back.

Pittsburgh Penguins v New Jersey Devils

Mario Lemiuex played his last season in Pittsburgh in 05-06, which also happened to be Sidney Crosby’s rookie year. Don’t even get me started about Mario’s rookie year. The guy put up 100 points as a rookie. He had 100+ points in his first 6 seasons in the NHL That is absurd. How about the 1989-1990 season where he put up 199 points….199!!! 85 goals and 114 assists. He was basically putting up a 3 spot every night. Penguins fans getting to witness that alone should be enough to hold them over for half a century, but then Sid and Geno came along.

Even without Lemiuex, Jagr, Sid and Malkin the ring of honor is still insane. Ron Francis, Larry Murphy, Paul Coffey, Kevin Stevens and then you still got Mark Rechhi, Marc- Andre Fluery, Kris Letang, Phil Kessel.

Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup Champion Victory Parade

The list goes on and on of star players to come and play in Pittsburgh, it’s just become laughable at this point. I’m sure we’ll see Sid and Geno raise the cup another time before it’s all said and done, too. What a run, Pitt…..what a run.
