Derrick Rose Sprained Both His Ankles Last Night Because That's How You Make Your Ankles Stronger

CHICAGODerrick Rose sprained his left ankle in Friday night’s 114-108 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Derrick Rose insists his ankle sprain is nothing to worry about, but between minutes restrictions and nagging injuries, the Bulls‘ season is off to a stressful start, Jon Greenberg writes. A league source told ESPN.com that Rose also sprained his right ankle during the second half, but that injury isn’t believed to be serious, either.

Rose was in good spirits after the game, even joking around with reporters. He said X-rays were negative, but his status for Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves is uncertain at this point. He had a simple message for the city of Chicago as he got ready to leave the Bulls’ locker room. “Don’t worry, it’s just an ankle sprain,” Rose explained before taking a long-term approach to his health during his brief media session. “I guess it’s part of the process,” he said. “Of course the gods are testing me right now, but it’s fine. I think I’ll be able to get through it.” Rose isn’t sure how the initial left ankle sprain occurred, but he wasn’t concerned about it after the game.

This is what I’m telling myself. You sprain them to build up scar tissue and get them extra tough for the season. Did I just become a doctor? Think I did.

Also, I’m trying to stay emotionally strong this season with D-Rose. Just picture a fat guy at the beach with a Mai Tai and one of those “Life Is Good” shirts on. That’s my brain with D-Rose this year. No problem guys, just a couple of sprained ankles, what’s that? You think his legs are made of glass and he’ll always be injured and he’ll never be the same player and actually make it through a full season? Sorry, couldn’t hear you, was just giving my dog some ice cream with a smile on my face.
