I couldn’t be happier right now. Free Solo is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve blogged about it a few times, because I feel so strongly about it and I want as many people to see it as possible. It tells the story of Alex Honnold’s climb of El Cap, a granite wall in Yosemite, without ropes. Just straight up, no ropes. The documentary is so good and the message is so life changing. If winning my third annual Documentary of the Year award wasn’t enough to sell you on it, maybe it winning the Oscar will. Some would say tomato, tomato.
Anyway, I’m elated a climbing documentary finally got its due. Meru was robbed, but Free Solo taking home the gold makes up for it. Go watch it as soon as you can.
