Today the Caps traded Madison Bowey and a 2nd round pick to Detroit in exchange for defenseman Nick Jensen. The Caps needed help on the blue line, and I was curious about Jensen, as a 2nd rounder on paper isn’t the cheapest to an upcoming UFA. But pretty much everyone who commented on this trade agreed- Jensen is the real deal.
The consensus is he’s reliable, a good puck mover, and generally underrated across the league. The Caps lose Madison Bowey who has been…struggling, that’s the word I’ll use, the last two years and could use a change of scenery.
And then the Caps immediately signed Jensen to a 4 year extension.
Pretty solid. They were high on Jensen and locked him up, making the trade not just a rental. The Caps traded for Kempny last year at the deadline and a lot of people scratched their heads at why we wanted a Blackhawks cast-off, and he has paid off in a big way. I have no idea what the Hawks were doing with him, but he’s one of the Caps more solid blue liners. Jensen is well regarded and will be able to step in immediately to patch up the defense. Entering his prime at 28 years old at 4 years/10 million is a steal.
The Caps front office- very good at their jobs.
