Carson Daly Is Retiring From Late-Night TV
Source - Carson has announced that he will no longer host the NBC late-night show, ending a 17-year run.
The TV vet has elected to leave the 1:30 a.m. show, which debuted in 2002, to focus on his roles with TODAY and “The Voice,” as well as spend more time with his family.
The 45-year-old says it’s time to embrace different challenges. “My 20s was about finding a good job,” he said. “My 30s was about taking on as many of them as I could. Now, in my 40’s, I’m focused on quality over quantity. I want to do more with my TODAY family and continue hosting and producing ‘The Voice’ and explore new opportunities.”
NBC is expected to reveal a new show in “Last Call’s” time slot and it’s unclear when Carson’s final episode will air.
It’s true….Carson Daly has a late night show and it’s been on the air for SEVENTEEN-YEARS. You may not have heard of it because it airs during the coveted 1:40 AM time slot, but I promise you it’s a thing. Here’s a clip of one of his monologues if you don’t believe me.

I guess he wants to focus more on his role at the Today Show, which is also apparently a thing. Here’s a clip of that if you don’t believe me.

Whatever the case, even though Daly’s retiring from a show that no one watched, it’s important to remember that at one point he hosted arguably the most culturally relevant show in the history of music: MTV’s TRL. TRL was to musicians what The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was to comics. Diddy, Brittany Spears, NYSNC, Jay Z, Beyonce, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre – all of them went to Daly to promote their stuff. Which is much different from the show he does now, but it’s still worth mentioning. Regardless, him leaving Last Call is kind of the end of an era. Kind of. Anyway, here are a bunch of clips of Carson on MTV. RIP Carson Daly.
