Gisele Says She Smoked and Drank to Cope with the Pain of Dating DiCaprio

SourceGisele Bündchen is opening up about one of her most famous relationships.

The former supermodel says she made the difficult decision to split from ex Leonardo DiCaprio after she realized she needed a change in lifestyle.

“No longer numbing myself with smoking, drinking and too much work, I was becoming more and more aware of things that I’d chosen not to look at,” Bündchen recalls in PORTER’s Spring issue cover story. “Was I alone in wanting to do some serious soul-searching while he stayed the same? In the end, unfortunately, the answer was yes.”

Bündchen, 38, and DiCaprio, 44, dated for 5 years from 2000 to 2005 and were inseparable. She was even his date to the 2005 Oscars where he was nominated for The Aviator — the only time he’s brought a girlfriend as his date to the ceremony. She’s now married to New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady.

Every time you think the Brady-Gisele romance couldn’t be any better, some other detail comes out to make you realize we’ve just never fully appreciated just how perfect it is. How fated these two crazy kids were all along to find each other, give themselves over to one another, and live happily ever after.

How many times have you heard someone make it out like Leo got sick of Gisele and dumped her in order to start an endless string of other underwear models who get younger as he gets older and bang them five at a time in Mediterranean yacht orgies? Well now the truth comes out. And it’s like a movie based on a bestseller by Nicholas Sparks.

Think about it. Do you know who Brady was with for a good chunk of the time Gisele was with DiCaprio? Tara Reid. Post American Pie Tara Reid. When she was still America’s “It Girl,” on the cover of Maxim and FHM four times a year. Meaning, the early stages of Trainwreck Tara, with the botched cosmetic surgeries and wardrobe malfunctions on red carpets (SFWish) and her nipples getting more exposure than a shirtless fat guy’s at a January playoff game. I talked to a Quincy cop the other day who used to work details at the Quincy Bay Marina back in those days. And he told me they were constantly having to escort Tara’s drunken ass back to Brady’s condo before he wised up and sold high on her and got her out of his life. That’s a key plot point in Act I.

Now we jump cut to Gisele, stuck in this loveless relationship. Unfulfilled, even with one of the world’s most desired men. Drowning her sorrowed every night with booze and weed. Dreaming of meeting her soulmate someday who’d save her from a life of quiet desperation.

Eventually the two of them break out of their unhealthy relationships. They meet. They start dating. He gets Bridget Moynahan pregnant. They keep going out anyway. He proposes. She says yes. DiCaprio keeps chasing Oscars by climbing into freezing cold rivers and having rough bear sex without a safety word. Brady keeps winning. Together they lead their best lives. And give birth to brood of genetically perfect superbabies. The music swells. Roll credits. The end.

And then for the after credits scene, Brady wins the Super Bowl MVP again. Please. Gisele and I have sacrificed a lot and deserve nothing less.
