Basketball is a year round sport, so due to that we’re going to do a year round mailbag. We’re still going to run this every Friday like we do during the season, but we’ll be talking about college hoops, transfers, NBA Draft, NBA and recruiting questions. That’s right you get an NBA and college hoops mailbag all rolled into one every Friday. Reminder you can always submit questions on Twitter @barstoolreags
Yeah, it’s a bad loss but there’s also a chance this ends up as a Q2 loss, which isn’t bad. Illinois right now is 113 in the NET. If it gets up to the top-100 this ends up being a quadrant 2 loss. That doesn’t hurt you that bad. I mean with Maryland it’s about seeding. Barring a disaster they are fine to make the NCAA Tournament. They are still 21 in the NET rankings. They are 20 on KenPom. You’re looking at a top-5 seed most likely.
Yes. You have to get to 68 teams somehow and 9-9 in the Big East should do it for Seton Hall. They have 2 real good nonconference wins with neutral vs Kentucky and at Maryland. That’ll help them as much as going 9-9 in the Big East will. The sweep against DePaul doesn’t help, but if they can get to 9-9 with either a sweep against St. John’s or a home win over Nova/Marquette you’re looking at a handful of quality wins.
This will be an intriguing one to watch. From the numbers Lipscomb should be in without too much hesitation. They are top-40 in both NET and KenPom. They have the win at TCU and home to Vermont. They already beat Liberty (a top-60 team) with another game against them. Let’s say Lipscomb runs the table and loses to Liberty in the conference title game, I don’t know how you leave them out. The 4 losses so far are to Belmont twice (home and away) and then at Louisville and Clemson. I’m all for Lipscomb getting in the NCAA Tournament.
No. That league isn’t good. Who is getting the at-large bid? It’s the 16th rated conference on KenPom. They don’t have a top-100 team. The automatic bid is going to be like a 15 seed. Maybe a 14 team.
This is the worst question (outside of asking what a teams ceiling is) I’ve had. It’s not close. Anthony Davis is a top-5 player in the NBA. Joel Embiid is not. It’s not close. You can’t debate this. Next.
In terms of teams? I’d point at the entire Pac-12 (maybe not Washington now) obviously. I’d point at Auburn right now. I’d point at Florida. I’d point at Xavier and Butler. I’d point at George Mason. I’d point at Miami. I’d probably go Indiana now too at this point.
None. This isn’t a super deep draft and I don’t think anyone outside of the top-10 will be an All-Star. If I think they are going to be an All-Star I’d take them top-10. But, let’s look at Sam Vecenie’s mock draft (big fan of the site). His top-10 is Zion, Barrett, Ja Morant, Reddish, Keldon Johnson, Nassir Little, Romeo Langford, De’Andre Hunter, Darius Garland and Jarrett Culver. Outside of that group the players I like the most: Tre Jones, Ashton Hagans and Nickiel Alexander-Walker.
Be patient. It’s year 2. I know there were lofty expectations because of Romeo Langford and then the asskicking against Marquette. But, that ultimately led to an overhyping of the team. There were always flaws and the fact that Indiana hasn’t been 100% all year. I always say give it 4 years. That’s enough time to get your guys in, your system implemented and get a feel about where the program is going.
No. See Fultz, Markell and Simmons, Ben. NBA scouts don’t care about team success in the NCAA.
