IMG Just Signed a New Supermodel And I'm MELTING
Page 6 - Iris Apfel, 97, has become an accidental fashion icon over the past decade, and now she’s a certified model.
On Thursday, it was announced that Apfel has signed with IMG for worldwide representation for modeling, appearances and endorsements.
“I’m very excited. I never had a proper agent,” Apfel told Women’s Wear Daily. “I’m a do-it-yourself girl. I never expected my life would take this turn so I never prepared for it.”
Apfel — who started a textile company, Old World Weavers, in 1950 with her late husband, Carl — has already starred in ad campaigns for Kate Spade, MAC Cosmetics, HSN and more. Last year, she released a book, “Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon.”
But while Apfel is now represented by the same agency as Gigi Hadid, Ashley Graham and nearly every Victoria’s Secret model, she has no plans to hit the runway: When asked what types of projects she’s looking for, Apfel quipped, “I don’t know. Just stick around.”
About freaking time! I mean god damn, how much longer did we have to wait? It’s about time women of age are properly represented in the modeling world. I mean look at these girls:
Yawn, yawn, yawn, and yawn. Wouldn’t even take a second glance if I saw any of them in a bar. I’d stare at my phone checking scores when they inevitably tried to talk to me. Dime a dozen, the whole lot of em.
Iris Apfel though?
Beautiful. Stunning. Glamorous. Perfect both inside and out. Look at her at her most recent shoot:
Mama sita!
Hopefully this is a big step for modeling and we see Iris walking in the next VS Fashion Show, modeling in the next SI Swimsuit Issue, and everything in between. Now if you’d excuse me, CVS is having a buy one get one sale on Kleenex.
