Bulletin Board Fodder: Nickell Robey-Coleman Says 'Age Has Taken a Toll' on Brady
It didn’t take long. In the proud tradition of Freddie Mitchell of the 2004 Eagles, Anthony Smith of the 2007 Steelers and a few other souls whose courage exceeded their common sense, Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman is no sooner hit Atlanta than he started talking shit. Via Bleacher Report:
He hates the Patriots to his core. That’s right: “Hate.”
Robey-Coleman, formerly of the Patriots-punching-bag Bills, repeats that word several times.
If you thought the wreckage he left behind in the NFC Championship Game was rough, you haven’t seen anything yet. Robey-Coleman wants everyone to picture the the bar fight scene in A Bronx Tale. That’s how he envisions Sunday going down. …
“We kick ‘em out of the bar, beat ‘em up—and the one thing he said, he looked down at a guy and said, ‘I did this to you.’ That’s how I want to feel: I did this to you. I did this to you.” …
It’s the little things, he explains. The “arrogance.” The fact that Bill Belichick is going to go for it on 4th-and-3 when he’s leading 17-0 in the fourth quarter. The Patriots love “antagonizing” teams, Robey-Coleman says.
“S–t like that. Little s–t to look down upon a team,” he adds. “Little assh–e stuff like that. That’s what makes you not like New England.” …
Asked if there are signs that Brady isn’t the same Brady, he nods aggressively.
“Yes. Yes. Age has definitely taken a toll. For him to still be doing it, that’s a great compliment for him. But I think that he’s definitely not the same quarterback he was,” Robey-Coleman says. “Movement. Speed. Velocity. Arm strength. He still can sling it, but he’s not slinging it as much. Whatever he was doing—because of his age and all that—he’s not doing as much of that anymore. He’s still doing the same things; he’s just not doing as much of it.”
You might think that getting away with committing the most egregious, blatant and definitive uncalled penalty in NFL history would humble a guy. That Robey-Coleman would try not to talk for a little bit. Avoid drawing attention to himself. Maybe find a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because he’s wanted for Pass Interference. But you’d be overestimating him.
The funny thing is, this isn’t even the most ridiculous thing he’s said since that Saints game. The winner of that prize was when he floated the idea he committed mayhem on the most important play of the year because “the ball was tipped.” This ball:
But now that I think about it, saying how much he hates the Patriots and Brady is old and losing it is probably worse just because the Saints are no longer a threat. Whereas the Pats are a clear and present danger to him. Who not only fed off Freddie Mitchell’s shittalk in 2004 (“We were happy when he was in the game,” Belichick said after), but they have a long track record of putting NRC in the torture chamber:
So to him, all we can say is thank you. And file this away as the week goes on and everyone again says the Patriots have no right to feel disrespected. Also, we’ll make the Bronx Tale references around here, thankyouverymuch.
