Bears Sign Kicker Who MADE A Double Doink In College And Re-Sign Bobby Massie

GasMoneyBob gave us a great kicker breakdown in his blog yesterday. Just a very thorough, and in depth look at the strengths and weaknesses of all the guys we brought in. Redford Jones is the guy that ended up winning the job as you can see from Field Yates’ tweet above.

So, who is Redford Jones?

He was the kicker at Tulsa from 2014-17, and was 50 for 67 in his three seasons there. That includes being 10 for 20 from 40-49 yards out, and 2 for 3 from 50 yards or greater.

Also- per the Chicago Tribune:

Jones began working last spring with former NFL kicker John Carney, the fifth-leading scorer in league history. Training five days a week at Carney’s facility in Carlsbad, Calif., Jones added 15 pounds of skill-specific muscle, improved his flexibility and tested several new kicking shoes.

This all sounds like great stuff, but the real story is this:

Redford Jones is a fucking double doink guy. Yes, his went in, but he’s still a double doink guy, and I don’t know how I feel about that. We’re trying to forget about this whole ordeal, and now every time I see him it will be in the back of my mind that he has double doink in his blood. We’ll see how it plays out, but close eyes on Redford for now. I love the name though. Really gives the Bears a little bit of a old school mystique.

ALSO:

Bobby is coming back. Pace is no bullshit, man. The NFL season isn’t even over yet, and he’s already making moves. The offensive line had a strong year so I’m happy that they’re bringing Massie back. I guess it goes to show how highly they think of him by getting it done so quickly. This officially means we’ll have the same starting 5 up front.

Now, what’s going to happen with Bryce Callahan and Adrian Amos?

Bear Down.
