Danny Farquhar, Who Suffered a Brain Hemorrhage in the Sox Dugout Mid-Game Last Year, Inks Deal with Yankees
Great feel good story to start our day. Danny Farquhar, noted “good guy” in the game, inked a deal yesterday to keep pitching professionally with the Yankees.
Now this wouldn’t be a big deal, as he’s a journeyman reliever on the wrong side of 30, but last year Farquhar had a nasty health issue in the middle of April last year. Just as he exited the game, he collapsed in the dugout:
It was super weird – I personally figured he just had a dizzy spell and collapsed or some shit, but sadly it was far worse. He had to spend 3 weeks in the hospital, a lot of those days in a medically induced coma due to the aneurysm, all while the Sox hung his jersey in their dugout every game
Scary, scary shit. Props to Herm Schneider and all those who dominated the scene as first responders.
Most people assumed he’d never pitch again, but nope. The Yankees obviously have a devastating bullpen so the odds he earns a spot on the roster are slim, but he’s a perfect pen arm for any rebuilding team, assuming he’s fully recovered from his health issue and doesn’t expect it to happen again.
Good for Danny. He crushed every public appearance he made post-scare:
Here’s to hoping he has a good enough spring to latch on to a team throughout the 2019 season, and shout out to the NYY for giving him a well earned shot. There can’t be too many ‘good dudes’ in baseball like Danny is by all accounts.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be off to blogger school. See ya’ll soon.
