Jordie's Journey To Bring Back The Philadelphia Wings Taking You Into The Weekend
Well, folks, it’s finally here. For the first time since 2014, the Wings are back to playing meaningful lacrosse in the city of Philadelphia as their season gets underway tomorrow at 1 against the Buffalo Bandits. It’s been a long time coming. We have waited years and years for his day to come. A lot of hard work, dedication and grind went in to making this possible. And now I don’t want to get up here are start sucking my own dick too much but let’s be real, I think I played a rather major role in getting this team back in Philly. How did I do it exactly? How did one blogger bring back an entire franchise from the dead? Well let’s just go back through time and watch it all play out again. It all started back on January 19, 2017 when I stormed the gates of the NLL headquarters and demanded that the team be brought back.
While I didn’t get a definitive answer then, I knew that I had made some significant progress. At the very least, the dialogue was open and the idea to bring back the Wings was officially turned into a movement. About 8 months later, the movement claimed its ultimate victory when it was officially announced that the Wings would be coming back as a new expansion team in the NLL. We did it. We finally heckin’ did it.
And the city of Philadelphia was absolutely BUZZING in anticipation for the Wings to come back.
And a lot has happened since then. Between the team name and jerseys being unveiled. To the expansion draft. To crafting the rest of the roster through free agency. Bringing back the Philadelphia Wings had gone from just an idea to a full blown reality. Now I never put in all this work for the fame and the glory and the credit. I’m just an ordinary man out here doing my job as any other ordinary man would do. However, it was nice to get at least a little recognition at the NLL Draft this past September, even though I necessarily didn’t get my name called once the actual draft got going.
But still, it was nice to see some of my hard work pay off and get recognized then. But it’ll be even nicer to see all the hard work pay off tomorrow afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center as the Philadelphia Wings get their 2018-19 season underway against the Buffalo Bandits. If any of you beauties are going to be out and about at the Sports Complex tomorrow, let me know. We can gas a few beers and get in one to make sure the Wells Fargo Center quickly becomes one of the most hostile barns for visiting teams to play at again.
