Is The Redskins Signing of Reuben Foster The Worst PR Move Of All Time?

College Football Playoff National Championship Media Day

USATODAY - San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster, who was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery Saturday night, was released by the team Sunday morning. Foster was arrested after a woman alleged he “pushed her in the chest” and “slapped her with an open hand,” according to the criminal affidavit provided by Tampa police. The alleged victim is the same woman who made – and then recanted – domestic violence allegations against Foster earlier this year.

I got to be honest. I thought I was missing some facts regarding this story when I first heard it. Like there was no way the Redskins signed a guy who only cut because he was just arrested for Domestic abuse. A guy who is a repeat domestic abuser. But guess what? That’s exactly what happened. Just flat out disgusting move by the Redskins. But that’s not even the point of this blog. I’m more stunned they would actually pull this move in today’s climate. Like maybe 10 years ago you could do this and people wouldn’t blink or even know about it. But in today’s society? It’s flat out stunning to me that the Redskins could be this stupid. And then how about his statement.

“Today we have claimed the rights to LB Reuben Foster,” Williams said. “The Redskins fully understand the severity of the recent allegations made against Reuben. If true, you can be sure these allegations are nothing our organization would ever condone.”

Umm does Dan Snyder and the Redskins think people are stupid? I’d almost respect them more if they just came out and said the truth. “We flat out don’t give a fuck about domestic abuse or basic human decency or really anything except winning football games and we think Reuben Foster can help us win. We’d sign Aaron Hernandez if he came back from the dead if he was available”

Because make no mistake that’s the message this sends. And it’s not just a bad look for the Redskins either. It’s a bad look for the entire NFL who tries to pretend they care about women. If you hit women you shouldn’t be allowed to play in the NFL period. I honestly don’t know what I’d do if I was a Redskin fan. How do you spend money and support a team with no morals or integrity? I just can’t foresee any scenario that this ends well for the Redskins. Either he never plays football again and they only receive bad press for even attempting this move or he actually somehow is allowed to play and there is such a huge public shaming that they end up cutting him before he can play anyway. That’s what makes this decision so stunning. It’s just a total lose lose for them and the fact they couldn’t see this coming beforehand is mind boggling.
