It's A... Fire?! Video Of Gender Reveal That Sparked 47,000 Acre Blaze Finally Released

Back in September I wrote about this incident but the video had yet to be released.

Now, thanks to the Forest Service & FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) we can watch a video of the birth of the 2017 Sawmill Fire that burned appx. 47K acres (80 miles) in Arizona.

In the video you see a box saying ‘BOY / GIRL’ in an extremely dry looking field. It looks like a single cigarette or the tiniest spark would set that place on fire, let alone an exploding Tannerite target.

From Tucson.Com:

Border Patrol Agent Dennis Dickey, who has admitted starting the fire with an explosive target, ignited the blaze during a gender reveal party that was held to show the gender of his wife’s expected baby, his attorney Sean Chapman told the Star in September.

Dickey agreed to pay $220,000 in restitution after he pleaded guilty Sept. 27 in federal court to a misdemeanor charge of causing a fire without a permit.

Before the fire was over, it had burned 47,000 acres and cost $8.2 million to extinguish, with nearly 800 firefighters battling the blaze.

As I’ve said eloquently before, “yikes”. How did they not look at that crispy-ass field & the explosives on the hay bails & not give the whole thing a second thought? Or maybe have some emergency items on the ready?

But also, think of the stories this little fella (if you watched the video it’s clearly a boy) will be able to tell at the bars when he’s older.

“So there’s my blue smoke, and here comes my dad. He’s the blacked out rectangle running by that other blacked out rectangle yelling that it’s time to pack up.”
