Dion Lewis Now Says There's 'Nothing Personal' Between Him and the Patriots

“Hell yeah it’s personal. That’s what happens when you go cheap. You get your ass kicked. I know those guys. I know that you be physical with them and let ’em have it and they’ll fold.” – Dion Lewis Sunday

“I’m a feisty guy. Everybody knows that. I have to be that way, I’m 5-7. I have to carry an edge, or a chip. That’s just how I am. That’s what’s gotten me to where I am. So, nothing personal. That’s just the type of person I am and the player I am.” – Dion Lewis, now

Let’s see if I’ve got this straight. Is it “personal” with Dion Lewis? “Hell yeah, it’s personal.” Is it? “Nothing personal.” Glad we cleared that up.

Look, I get where Dion Lewis was coming from after the game. I’m a feisty guy too. I’m 5-9. Ish. I carry and edge as well. So Monday when I wrote “Dion Lewis can fuck right off“, that’s just the type of person I am and the writer I am. It was a difficult moment after a loss that was tough to watch and I let my emotions get the best of me. And I take it back.

And besides, I totally get where he’s coming from with that height thing. Everybody has that short friend who overcompensates. Who has, as Lewis put it, a “chip.” I’ve always recognized that I’m about two inches from being one of them. I’ll never forget a few years ago at our Fantasy Football draft, my buddies Jake and Davo were yelling at each other for a half an hour about politics or some stupid thing and finally turned to our friend JoeAl who’s like 6-2 and said, “You’ve been listening to this. Who do you think is right?” and he answered “I dunno. I was just thinking about how I’ve never heard two tall guys argue like this,” as both their heads exploded. Or to put it the way my old boss once did, “Big man, big penis. Little man, ALL penis.”

So no hard feelings toward Dion Lewis. Let’s bury hatchets and let bygones be gone by. The fact he’s walked back what he said after just a couple of days, even contradicting himself on the personal/not personal nature of his beef, should tell us he gets it. That he doesn’t want to end up on the ash heap of history along with the few wretched creatures who dared cross Belichick. The empty, hollowed-out shells of men like Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan, Mike Kensil, Ryan Grigson, John Harbaugh and so on, forced to walk the Earth in disgrace for coming after him. Belichick made Lewis into the very wealthy 3rd down back on a 5-4 team that he is, and it seems he realizes that now. So we’re good. He won a ring here and will always be welcomed back just so long as he never forgets where he came from.
