Kevin Durant Doesn't Give A Shit About Anything Besides The Money He's Going To Get This Offseason
[The Athletic] - “I am thinking about the money I’m going to get,” Durant said. “I never got the (massive) deal. I’ve just seen a bunch of dudes around the league making so much money — and I’m happy for them. But I know I deserve that, too. That’s the only thing I’m probably thinking about, to be honest.”
Kevin Durant’s free agency is going to be one of the most intriguing decisions in recent memory. With LeBron it always felt like you knew the move. That doesn’t feel like the case for Durant, who is the second best player in the league. I mean, I don’t blame him for this comment either. He’s the 11th highest paid player right now, barely beating out Paul Milsap. Now, it’s not a surprise. Durant has taken team-friendly deals in order to keep the Warriors together and re-sign guys like Iguodala and Livingston.
That’s why I don’t care that Durant is talking about wanting to get paid. He deserves it. He’s got his titles. He has his MVP. He has his Finals MVPs. Let him go get that bag now. Let him become the highest paid player in the league or second highest paid player in the league. He’s made connections in Silicon Valley, which is something that a lot of the Warriors – most notably Iggy – have talked about.
So, I hope Kevin Durant goes and gets paid – preferably by the Knicks. But it’s going to be one of the most interesting decisions to track this summer. He’s talked about wanting to play for just 5 more years, which would be one more contract most likely.
